Best games like Wordle in 2026
Free daily games that keep Wordle’s formula and change one thing: more boards, math, geography, music, movies or other languages.
Wordle works because of its constraints: one word a day, six guesses, and colored feedback you can share. Since it took off in late 2021 (NYT Company), hundreds of games have borrowed the formula. These are the ones we’d play, grouped by what they change. All are free and play in your browser.
More boards at once
- Quordle: four words, nine guesses. Every guess counts on all four boards, so you have to think about letter coverage, not just one answer.
- Octordle: eight words in thirteen guesses. Slower, and very satisfying when you finish.
- Dordle: two boards, seven guesses. A gentle step up from Wordle.
- Duotrigordle: thirty-two boards, thirty-seven guesses. Only if you’re feeling brave.
Numbers instead of letters
- Nerdle: guess an eight-character equation. The equals sign and order of operations make it its own kind of deduction.
- Mathler: find the equation that equals the day’s number.
- Primel: guess a five-digit prime number.
Same letters, different shape
- Waffle: all the letters are already on the board, scrambled across six interlocking words. Swap them back with as few moves as possible.
- Phrazle: guess a whole phrase instead of a single word.
- Contexto: unlimited guesses, ranked by meaning rather than spelling. See also games like Contexto.
Wordle for other subjects
- Worldle: name a country from its outline, with distance and direction hints. It launched in January 2022 (Wikipedia) and has its own spin-offs in our geography guide.
- Heardle 80s: name the song from its opening seconds. The original Heardle was bought by Spotify and shut down in 2023 (TechCrunch), but decade versions live on. See games like Heardle.
- Framed: name the movie from a still, with up to six frames.
- Costcodle and Phoodle: guess a Costco price, or a food word.
Wordle in other languages
- Termo (Portuguese), La palabra del día (Spanish), SUTOM and Le Mot (French), Woordle (Dutch) and Parle (Italian). Good for language practice. See all world-language games.
How we picked
We included games that are free, play in a browser without an account, publish one shared puzzle a day, and were working when we last checked. We don’t take payment for placement. The order on our games like Wordle page follows plays from PlayItDaily visitors, which you can see on the home page.
